About him
For a long time, my dating profile has used the (reported) Kingsley Amis quote, "it's only half a life without a woman."
And pretty much all the profiles I look at say the same thing: "my life's fine, I just need that little extra".
Really? When we're younger and looking for a partner, we have far fewer preconceptions, and may even be excited to meet someone who might change our lives completely.
But once we're settled and fairly comfortable, and less used to change, and maybe subconsciously hoping to put life back to where it was with a former partner, many of us seem to hope that someone will come along who will be delighted to just fit into our established lives.
What are the chances, especially if we all feel the same? I'm no less nervous than anyone at the prospect of a major change, but maybe I need to be more realistic, and at least consider the possibility of someone who *isn't* just like me (I'm not talking Tories here, obvs).
And for the moment, I am:
recently retired University teacher;
Londoner happily living in SE London after 16 years in a rural hamlet in the far west of Cornwall;
loving London and all it has to offer, and hoping it might soon get back to something like normal.
I have to add that I've often been told that I don't suffer fools gladly, but I always assumed this to be a compliment.

- intelligent, articulate and lively, as well as attractive (roughly in that order), interested in the arts, left wing politics, nice food and wine, and travel; maybe you don't need to check all those boxes, and I don't need to check all of yours. Or be in any box, at all.
- but you are definitely not a Tory or Brexiter or similar nasty racist; or a smoker, a hunt supporter, a god-botherer or an alternative "medicine" wacko. These are complete deal breakers (but blacks, Irish and dogs welcome ;-).
